August 13, 2001- Alan and Joy drove to Athens, Georgia, to meet with Brent and Linda Ropp. Further conversation and prayer indicated that the application process should be initiated. MAF headquarters in California called Alan and Joy and talked about technical needs and the application process.

August 23, 2001- Alan, Joy, and David had their passport and family pictures taken. The Slaughters received their passport applications. Still working on the formal application...
Septmeber 4, 2001- Formal application complete!
September 5, 2001- The Slaughters met with head pastor Dan Travis.
September 6, 2001- First appointment at the health department. The Slaughters received vaccines for yellow fever, typhoid fever, Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B. Alan and Joy also had eye exams and received new glasses and contacts.
September 20, 2001- Pastor Dan reported that the Board of Elders had received the Slaughters' mission application. The Elders are "enthusiastic" about the possibility.
September 25, 2001- Questionaires are received by references.
October 1, 2001- Ralph from MAF Recruiting reported that paperwork is being received at headquarters and that they would like the Slaughters to begin considering a week for the formal interview in Redlands, California.
October 4, 2001- Alan and Joy met with Pastor Bob about mission service.
What's Next? The Slaughters will meet with the GBC Board of Elders and the Board of Missions. A recommendation will then be sent to MAF and a formal interview set.
